SFU Chancellor Brandt C. Louie will serve a second three-year term as the university’s Chancellor, following his re-election by acclamation. His first term will be completed in June, 2008.

SFU’s Alumni Association nominated Louie in 2005. "This is wonderful news for the university," says Allan Maynard, Alumni Association president. "The Alumni Association Board of Directors unanimously nominated Brandt for a second term as Chancellor because we've seen first-hand how his passion for the university and his leadership have benefited SFU.

“We look forward to working with him to make the future of SFU and our students even brighter."

Louie, President of H.Y. Louie and Chairman and CEO of London Drugs Ltd, has been a member of SFU's Board of Governors since 2000 and served as Board Chair from 2002 until his election as Chancellor in 2005.

Louie also served as Chair of SFU’s 40th Anniversary Reaching New Heights campaign, which raised over $150 million ($25 million over the campaign goal).

Born in Vancouver, Louie received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from UBC and became a chartered accountant three years later. He serves on several boards of companies and non-profit organizations, including the Royal Bank of Canada, Duke University Medical Center, Harvard University, NeuroScience Canada, the Gairdner Foundation and the Historica Foundation of Canada.

Louie personally leads London Drugs' charity committee, which oversees the company's corporate contributions to health and wellness organizations, medical research, education and the arts.

“I am honored to have been re-elected Chancellor of SFU,” says Louie. “I will continue to encourage financial commitments from all levels of business and government, to support SFU’s endeavours to maintain its reputation as a leading edge university.”

The Chancellor serves as Chair of Convocation, a member of Senate and the Board of Governors and confers all degrees. One of the university’s chief ambassadors, the Chancellor often represents the university within the larger community.
