Simon Fraser University will screen four provocative documentaries Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28 at its Surrey campus as part of Surrey’s first environmental film festival. The free festival is part of the 10th annual Environmental Extravaganza organized by the Green Ideas Network and the City of Surrey.
On Friday, the festival will present former U.S. vice-president Al Gore’s Oscar-winning film, An Inconvenient Truth, which looks at global warming and climate change. Also showing Friday is The Synthetic Sea Story, a documentary about how plastic debris are threatening marine food webs.
On Saturday, the festival presents Natural Connections, a documentary about the importance of maintaining biodiversity, and Buyer Be Fair: The Promise of Product Certification, which explores how consumers and businesses can promote social justice and environmental sustainability through product labeling.
The films will be screened in the Westminster Savings Credit Union Lecture Theatre, room 2600, on the mezzanine level of SFU’s Surrey campus, at 13450-102 Avenue, adjacent to the Surrey Central SkyTrain station. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; screening is at 7 p.m. Admission is free and seating is unreserved.
