Where can you make a mini-film, take a virtual tour of the biggest machine in the world and make a milkshake with your own pedal power at a bicycle blender station? At Simon Fraser University’s Open House on Saturday, May 31 at the Burnaby campus from 12noon – 4:30 pm.

We’re planning hundreds of exhibits, interactive displays, lab demonstrations, performances and presentations featuring the university’s academic programs and campus services – and a big carnival at Convocation Mall. The university’s biggest public event is free, so is the parking and extra buses will be operating.

There will be nothing but fun at the carnival on the mall with face painting, games, cotton candy, popcorn and prizes galore! Enter to win some great prizes including two front row tickets to the sold-out Kanye West concert, one semester of free tuition, round-trip airfare for two to Asia or a mountain bike.

Here is a sampling of the intriguing events:

•    Arts-Contemporary Style
    ASSC1 building atrium

Hear an authentic Gamelan orchestra, catch a dance performance or experiment on old-time synthesizers.

•    Campus Tours
    Freedom Square

Take part in an architectural walking tour of the Burnaby campus and learn about the planning and design on campus. Tour the residence and housing facilities, including the Simon Hotel.

•    Science is fun
    South concourse-Academic Quadrangle

Liquid nitrogen ice cream is just a taste of the interactive presentations along with fun with fluids and mining for magnets. Be sure to look for the miniature train that floats above the track.
