PSA: Letter on behalf of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (SFU)
May 16, 2008
Dear all:
As you may have known, a strong earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale rocked Wenchuan County of southwest China's Sichuan Province at 2:28 p.m. on May 12th, which caused severe loss of lives and properties of the people there.
In YinXiu, a small town of Wenchuan County, of all 9,000 residents only 2,300 survived, inluding 1,000 seriously injured. In Beichuan High School, more than 1,000 students and teachers were buried under the ruins when they were having class, only 50 have been reportedly rescued alive. The death toll (as of 1 a.m. May 15) is 14,866, about 26,000 are still buried under ruins, and more than a million are now homeless and suffering from injury, starvation, and potential infections.
The worse news is that the rescue pace is severely slowing down due to strong aftershocks and heavy rain. People, even including the rescue teams, are lack of food, drugs, clean water, blankets, etc.
Therefore, millions of pitiful people need emergent help. Together, we may save tens of thousands lives! Please, please help!!
To those of you who know Chinese and wish to donate directly to Chinese agencies, you are advised to find information from
