The idea of aging in one’s own familiar home surroundings raises a variety of issues - from affordability and accessibility to service. The topic will be the focus of discussion at the 18th annual John K. Friesen conference at SFU Vancouver’s Segal Centre on May 28-29.
Dr. Anthea Tinker, Professor of Social Gerontology at King's College London and Dr. Elaine Cress, Professor of Kinesiology at the University of Georgia will be the keynote speakers at the event. Discussions will centre on how to best provide services and making housing more affordable, while taking into account what’s happening around B.C.
The conference includes a number of panel sessions that will see researchers, practitioners and policy-makers from around the province share their knowledge and experience.
Online registration is available at http://www.sfu.ca/grc/
The Gerontology Research Centre and Department are also planning a 25th Anniversary Celebration on May 28th at 5:30 p.m. in room 1420 - 515 W. Hastings.
The event will feature a presentation of highlights of the past 25 years by gerontology faculty members Gloria Gutman and Andrew Wister, and the presentation of the 2008 SFU Gerontology Senior Leadership Awards. To attend, please call 778.782.5062.
