Gordon Price, director of the SFU City Program and a former Vancouver city councillor, says the future of the Lower Mainland will be determined more by what happens south of the Fraser River than in Vancouver.
Price will explain his thoughts at a free public lecture at SFU’s Surrey campus on May 30, beginning at 6:30 p.m. His lecture will show how the South Fraser region developed and what possibilities and trade-offs must be considered for a more sustainable future. He will also speculate on what issues will be debated by future city councils.
Planning for the Second Great City takes place in the Westminster Savings Credit Union Theatre, Room 2600, mezzanine level, at the SFU Surrey campus, 13450 - 102nd Avenue (King George Highway and 102nd Avenue), adjacent to the Surrey Central SkyTrain station.
The lecture is presented in partnership with The City Program, SFU Continuing Studies.
Though reservations are not required, seating is limited and early arrival is recommended.
The Mayors’ Public Lecture Series is a collaboration between the university’s continuing studies department and the mayors of the South Fraser region and has included talks on such issues as healthy communities, crime, development and revitalization, transportation, and economic development and diversification. Participating municipalities include Surrey, White Rock, Delta, Langley, Langley Township, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Maple Ridge and Mission.
