Novus Entertainment, a cable television broadcaster with an audience of more than 22,000 viewers, is the second broadcaster to pick up Your Education Matters.

Simon Fraser University’s Faculty of Education produces the interview-style program, which ShawTV first began re-broadcasting, five months ago. SFU’s Learning & Instructional Development Centre films the show on campus.

Novus will re-broadcast Your Education Matters twice a day (10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.) to its niche audiences in several Vancouver and Burnaby neighbourhoods. The half hour series constitutes the only B.C. television program about education issues.

“Several people in our audience who had seen Your Education Matters elsewhere contacted us with a request to air this content,” says Matthew Grant, producer of Novus Entertainment. “We saw the SFU program as an ideal fit for our audience, which has a lively interest in issues affecting its community and a desire to increase its awareness of them.”

Hosted by Paul Shaker, the dean of SFU’s Faculty of Education, Your Education Matters provides insight and opinion on high profile education issues through interviews with professional educators. The program is meant to be a resource through which parents can improve their grasp of educational issues and make better decisions about their educational experience.

“The feedback we’ve received from teachers, parents and other stakeholders about the program has been encouraging and I’m delighted to know that the Novus audience will be able to view it,” says Shaker.
