Parking Rate Increase
On May 29, 2008 the Board of Governors approved price increases to parking at SFU's Burnaby campus for the purpose of funding SFU's U-Pass commitment. U-Pass is a student transit pass program that is funded through both a mandatory student fee and a contribution by the University. SFU's commitment is approximately $500,000 per year and it is this amount that has to be funded.
As most of you are aware, the University is facing very difficult financial times. To help address the budget pressures facing the University, it has become necessary to fund SFU's U-Pass commitment through increased parking revenues.
The Parking Services Department and the Parking Services Advisory Committee developed a number of different funding options and it was decided that the best method of increasing revenues to fund U-Pass was to balance the price increases between visitor and permit rates.
All permit rates will increase by $7.84 / month effective September 1, 2008. The following chart shows a selection of permit fees:

If your permit is not on this chart, you can expect your parking rate to rise by $7.84 / month commencing September 1, 2008. If you purchase non-standard permits that are based on these rates (Z permit, VPP scrips, motorcycle permits, etc.) you can expect your rates to rise by a pro-rated amount.
All visitor rates will increase by $0.25/hour and $1.00/day effective September 1, 2008.
