The impact of a major oil spill caused by a pipeline rupture in north Burnaby is being assessed at this hour after a neighbourhood was coated in spewing oil that is now fanning out into Burrard Inlet. SFU’s Tim Takaro is a health sciences associate professor who studies the impact of pollutants. Earth sciences assistant professor Dirk Kirste specializes in environmental chemistry and can look at how oil spills pollute the environment as well as methods for cleanup.
