SFU PSA: Edible & Earthly Community Events
August 28, 2008
It’s back to school time in BC. At SFU’s Burnaby campus, even non-students will find a good reason to come up to campus.
e-Waste Recycling Event
Old electronic junk– such as clunky cell phones and old computers– cluttering your closet? Drop off your e-waste in the large recycling bin at the SFU Microcomputer Store at the Burnaby campus, Sept. 2-5 from 10 am – 4 pm. Parking is located directly in front of the store on the south side of Cornerstone building. The event is sponsored by Simon Fraser University and Dell. Enter a chance to win a Dell laser printer when you drop off your donated items. Further information: http://www.microstore.sfu.ca/
SFU Pocket Farmers Market
The SFU Local Food Project has partnered with the Coquitlam Farmers Market to launch the first season of the SFU Pocket Farmers Market on September 10, 2008 from 12pm to 5pm. Fresh, local produce from Fraser Valley farmers, delicious prepared goods, community education and more will be on offer every Wednesday until October 29 at Town Square at SFU’s Burnaby Campus, near the Cornerstone building.
‘Pocket’ farmers markets are a new feature in the Lower Mainland and are typically smaller markets in which produce is purchased directly from local farmers and then sold on their behalf. This model allows farmers to sell more of their produce without the added time of attending multiple markets and enables farmers to do what they love the most… growing food in their fields.
