Three leading members of the Canadian publishing community are joining Simon Fraser University’s Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing (CCSP) as faculty in the master of publishing program.
Rowland Lorimer, CCSP director, says, “The addition of three more faculty from the publishing industry significantly adds to the practical knowledge and breadth of experience we have on the floor in the program. When combined with CCSP Press and the new electronic journals project at SFU, both of which are like publishing labs for master’s students, we expect our graduates to be very competitive in the job marketplace.”
New faculty members are:
Designer and art director Roberto Dosil, will teach design and production, book publishing, and the history of publishing. Dosil will also be director of CCSP Press, a recently launched book publishing company focusing on trade and academic titles. Most recently he chaired the Kwantlen University College graphic design for marketing program.
Mary Schendlinger, senior editor of Geist magazine, will teach editing and book publishing. Ms. Schendlinger is former managing editor at Harbour Publishing and has edited books for several BC publishers.
The former publisher of Doubleday Canada, Seal Books and Scholastic Canada, Don Sedgwick, will teach publishing management and magazine publishing. Now president of the Transatlantic Literary Agency, he also held senior marketing positions at McClelland & Stewart and Key Porter Books. From 1997-2003 he directed the graduate book & magazine publishing program at Centennial College, Toronto.
