Blusson Hall, the greenest building at Simon Fraser University, officially opens Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. The $56.9-million facility will house the thriving Faculty of Health Sciences, whose researchers are setting new directions in the studies of infectious diseases, environmental health, mental health and addiction, and global health.

At 1:30 pm., an inaugural health symposium will focus on the challenges of children’s healthy development. Speakers include:
  •     Dr. Fraser Mustard, founding member of McMaster University’s medical school and an advocate of the importance of early brain development for health, learning and quality of life
  •     Bruce Lanphear, SFU faculty of health sciences, whose research focuses on exposure to environmental toxicants and children’s development
  •     Charlotte Waddell, SFU faculty of health sciences, who studies children’s mental health prevention and policy

Blusson Hall is located on the Burnaby campus, northeast of Strand Hall, across from parking lot E. There will be an opportunity to tour the new facility following the opening with faculty members Tim Takaro and Bruce Lanphear.
