The fall semester marks the start of classes for thousands of SFU students – and the completion of studies for more than 2,400 students preparing to convocate in October.
They’ll be recognized for their achievements during Fall Convocation on Thursday, Oct. 4 and Friday, Oct. 5. The ceremonies are as follows:
Oct 4: 9:45 a.m. Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
Oct 4: 2:30 p.m. Faculties of Applied Science and Science
Oct 5: 9:45 a.m. Faculties of Business Administration and Arts and Social Sciences (Bachelor of General Studies degrees, Criminology and English)
Oct 5: 2:30 p.m. Faculties of Education and Faculty of Health Sciences, Diplomas and Certificates.
Those graduating in the Faculty of Education’s Professional Development Program (PDP) will be recognized in a ceremony on Wednesday, Oct 3.
Honorary degrees will be conferred on:
Richard Lipsey, renowned economist, SFU professor emeritus and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council 2005 gold medalist (Oct 4 morning ceremony),
Ray Hyman, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Oregon at Eugene and founding member of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (Oct. 4 afternoon ceremony),
Stephen Jarislowsky, philanthropist, Order of Canada officer and chairman and CEO of Jarislowsky, Fraser and Company, one of Canada’s largest investment management firms (Oct. 5 morning ceremony).
