"And, if you see 300 (extra) nerds (at SFU Vancouver), it's just the Association of Internet Researchers having a GREAT conference." That's Richard Smith, SFU professor of communication, getting ready to welcome Internet researchers from around the world to their association's second Canadian conference, Oct. 18-20. "This meeting one of the premier opportunities for scholars and researchers of all things Internet, as well as related new media technologies and practices, to meet, present their research and share ideas. We have over 200 papers in over 80 sessions, including Birds of a Feather sessions discussing topics from health, culture and game studies to humour, the history of the Internet and prospects for a scholarly YouTube."

Keynote speakers include MIT's Henry Jenkins (3:30 pm, Oct. 19), John Lester, from Linden Lab, makers of Second Life (10:30 am Oct. 18) and John Willinsky, UBC Education (10:30 am, Oct. 20), making the case for open access to research and scholarship.

Let's Play, the 8th annual Internet Research conference takes place at SFU's Vancouver campus - Harbour Centre, 515 West Hastings St.
