Simon Fraser University economics professor Arthur Robson (Vancouver resident) has become one of only 10 Canadian Fellows of the Econometric Society.
The society is an international organization dedicated to advancing economic theory as it is conveyed through statistics and mathematics. It is the most prestigious learned society in the field of economics.
Robson is a Canada Research Chair in Economic Theory and Evolution at SFU. His research has contributed greatly to theoretical understanding of the biological underpinnings of human economic behaviour.
A widely published, leading game theorist, Robson has sought to determine how evolution influences the strategies that humans employ over time, under uncertainty, and in interactions with each other.
Robson is the second SFU professor to be elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society, which has 550 Fellows worldwide, including 25 Nobel Prize winners.
Emeritus Professor of Economics Richard Lipsey was the first SFU scholar to gain entry to the society in 1972.
