Andrew Petter, Simon Fraser University’s ninth president and vice-chancellor, took the oath of office and was invested with his new robes of office during a brief installation ceremony at Fall Convocation on Oct. 7.
Petter and more than 100 dignitaries first joined the traditional procession of graduands into Convocation Mall. Following an opening address by Chancellor Brandt Louie, Petter recited the oath before Chief Justice Lance Finch and did a spin in his new robe following his investiture, to the delight of the crowd.
Petter, former dean of law at the University of Victoria and former B.C. attorney general, told graduands and families – including several representatives of his own family – that SFU would continue to build on its reputation as a university that is “student driven, research focused and community engaged.”
