Come and get a free front row seat at Simon Fraser University’s Interdisciplinary Research in the Mathematical and Computational Sciences (IRMACS) Centre where you won’t believe your eyes.
IRMACS will be providing an exclusive showing—appropriate eye wear included—of The Clockwork Girl, a new 3D movie in the making on Monday, June 28, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
SFU students and alumni are directing, producing, voicing and creating what eventually will be a 90-minute 3D movie, similar in tone and visuals to the commercially successful How to Train Your Dragon, currently in theatres.
Brian Corrie, IRMACS’ technical director, says the centre’s premiering of a two minute commercial, providing a glimpse of The Clockwork Girl, showcases the centre’s stereoscopic 3D capabilities and provides moviegoers with a rare opportunity.
“It basically displays a different view on the screen for each eye and uses special glasses to ensure that the left eye sees only the left eye image and vice-versa,” explains Corrie. “The capability to record, create and display 3D content in an academic institution is rare in Canada.”
Movie producer Sean O’Reilly, an SFU biology graduate, and director Kevin Hanna will discuss the origins of The Clockwork Girl—which is based on a graphic novel—its significance as a transmedia venture and its financial backing through CJ Entertainment, South Korea’s largest entertainment company.
O’Reilly, a former Coquitlam teacher, is the founder and owner of Arcana Studio, Canada’s largest comic book company. The Coquitlam resident is also a research associate at SFU’s School of Interactive Arts and Technology.
Movie theme: The Clockwork Girl has come to life, thanks to her graphic novel creator. While exploring the wonders of an ordinary world she meets an amazing mutant boy and they share a friendship that must overcome their warring families.
