Take some liquids, add some colour, wave a science-lab wand and POOF! You have ChemQuest 2011, a Simon Fraser University and Douglas College celebration of the International Year of Chemistry and the B.C. Year of Science.
On Saturday, May 14, SFU’s academic quadrangle at the Burnaby campus will be transformed into a giant chemistry lab featuring mad scientists at work and at play from 1 to 4 p.m.
The free science carnival for people of all ages features a question-and-answer session with Dr. Zonk who will be handing out prizes for the best answers. Prizes include t-shirts, knapsacks and iPods.
There will also be lessons on how to make a liquid magnet, how to boil water with just a laser pointer and how to paint with a light bulb.
Plus, you won’t want to miss two explosively entertaining chemistry magic shows at 1:30 and 3:00 p.m. Admission is free but space is limited so reservations are recommended. Go to: http://i.sfu.ca/BJMEEQ
