David Choi, president and CEO, Royal Pacific Real Estate Corporation and former chair of Vancouver’s Economic Development Commission, has been appointed as an adjunct professor with Simon Fraser University’s David See-Chai Lam Centre for International Communication.

“The David Lam Centre is very pleased to welcome David Choi to his new home at SFU’s downtown location," says centre's director, Paul Crowe. “In the past decade, Professor Choi has worked closely with the Lam Centre on two significant projects: The federally-funded Chinese Canadian Chronological Chart, (the first published in English, French and Chinese) and Canadian Steel, Chinese Grit, a video documentary recounting the story of Chinese railway workers in Canada.”

Choi, who chairs the CK Choi Foundation, says, “I am honored to be associated with SFU’s David Lam Centre. I deeply respect the centre's patron and the leadership of the centre. I find the spirit and effort in furthering international and intercultural communication, and deepening understanding through academic excellence to be inspiring. I am pleased to be part of the David Lam Centre team. We are domestically, internationally and locally engaged."

The David Lam Centre was established in 1989 with the opening of SFU’s Vancouver campus at Harbour Centre. Its goal was, and is, to enhance communication across languages and cultures through research and dialogue. “We continue to explore issues of concern with local communities,” says Crowe. "The David Lam Centre has hosted many academic events related to history, philosophy, religion, business and the arts. This is a legacy of the leadership of our founding director Jan Walls, professor emeritus in humanities.”
