A high profile corporate executive in Canada and the U.S. and a certified executive coach, known for her work worldwide, are new faces on Simon Fraser University’s Board of Governors.
Anne Giardini, Q.C., a lawyer called to the bars of B.C. and Ontario and the president of Weyerhaeuser Company Limited, has been appointed for a one-year term.
Giardini, who replaces Daniel Pekarsky as a board member, works closely with senior corporate managers on both sides of the border on corporate, legal, policy and strategic issues. Giardini is an SFU alumna, obtaining her B.A. in economics and political science in 1980.
Nancy MacKay, a former business faculty member at several universities, including SFU, is another new board member. Serving a one-year appointment, MacKay replaces Nancy McKinstry.
MacKay, named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women in 2008, is president and co-founder of MacKay & Associates. The company coaches and facilitates 100 CEOs worldwide through its eight CEO networks.
Both Giardini and MacKay are prolific authors. Giardini has written two books and is working on her third, while MacKay has co-authored a book and authored numerous scholarly articles published in international research journals and business publications.
In other board news, Michael Francis, a chartered accountant and president of Seed Management Inc., has been re-elected chair for a second one-year term.
Bob Elton, who is currently serving his second three-year term as a board member, succeeds Pekarsky as deputy chair for a one-year term. Elton is the director of several companies, executive chair of Powertech Labs and advisor to the Board of Directors of B.C. Hydro.
Lynda Brown-Ganzert, an SFU alumna and a guru in the digital media world internationally, has been re-appointed to the board for a second two-year term.
