Fonerus, the North American distributor for the Shanghai Piano Co., is donating nine pianos a year for the next three years to Simon Fraser University Contemporary Arts at Woodward’s.
Six grand pianos, two upright pianos and one electro-acoustical player will be utilized by SFU students and staff and showcased throughout the facility.
Each year when the new pianos are delivered, the old ones will be donated, auctioned or gifted to local non-profit organizations, students or schools.
Says Fonerus President Alan He: “Students need high quality instruments to create and perform, and I am happy to be able to contribute to their education in this way.”
SFU President Michael Stevenson is delighted with the support that SFU Contemporary Arts at Woodward’s is receiving from the community.
“Building a major arts complex is a huge undertaking that is impossible for one organization to do alone. We really appreciate organizations like Fonerus who are coming on board to improve the educational experience of our students.”
