A cellphone with robotic arms, an interactive Tarot Card reading, a behind-the-scenes criminology tour and more will be on display at Simon Fraser University Surrey’s annual Open House on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.

High school students, their parents and the public are all invited, says Matthew Grant, enrollment manager for SFU Surrey.

“You can tour the campus, watch the entertainment on the mezzanine floor, hear presentations on academic programs, view student projects and faculty demonstrations, see interactive displays, ask questions of our many university participants, and maybe even win a prize,” Grant says.

Faculty and students from many of SFU’s programs will be on hand to answer questions and to show off their work, including interactive arts and technology, computing science, business administration, education, health sciences, arts and social sciences, science and continuing studies.

Potential students and their parents can also find out information about SFU Surrey’s innovative first-year programs, TechOne, Explorations, and Science Year One, he says.

“We’re also giving out great prizes,” says Grant, “including a Nintendo Wii, and every high school student who attends will get a free t-shirt.”

High school students who register online before the Open House are eligible to win an iPod Touch.

The Open House will be held on the mezzanine floor of the Surrey campus at Central City, 13450 102 Ave., close to the Surrey Central SkyTrain station.

To register for the open house or for more information, visit www.surrey.sfu.ca/openhouse or call 778.782.7400.
