It’s proving to be a stellar year for Simon Fraser University business undergrads who are reaping top awards at home and abroad.

Ashish Gurung and Milun Tesovic won the top business awards at the Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) and Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) national championships held this month in Toronto. In April, Tim Coleman, Helen Lu and Jessica Wang took first place in the international L'Oreal E-strat on-line business competition.

Coleman, Lu and Wang beat out 40,000 students competing in teams from universities worldwide to prove they were best at managing a virtual portfolio of cosmetic brands in the L’Oreal competition.

The SFU trio beat both the North American and Australian teams to take the regional prize—an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris, France to compete in the international finals. They then scored the international first prize: a €10,000 ($16,600) trip to the destination of their choice.

At the ACE National Exposition, which honours ACE/SIFE competition winners, Gurung won the entrepreneurial leader of the year title. Tesovic secured the national student entrepreneur of the year title and will represent Canada at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards in Chicago this fall.

Students are involved in ACE and SIFE activities at more than 50 universities and colleges across Canada.

In addition to being a student and SIFE SFU’s president, Gurung works part-time at SFU Surrey and is CEO of NuXD, an SFU spin-off business that designs interactive technology.

Tesovic is the owner and founder of Metroleap Media Inc., which runs the MetroLyrics.com website, consistently rated one of Canada’s top websites.
