The five-time and current world champion Simon Fraser University Pipe Band will perform a special evening concert at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre on July 10.

Band members are at Silver Star Mountain, July 5-10 and July 12-17 for their annual Piping Hot Summer Drummer 2009 summer school.

“Vernon is a great location for us to perform,” says pipe sergeant Jack Lee. “It is in the Okanagan Valley, which is a hot spot for piping and pipe bands. We teach many pipers and drummers there from around the world each year in July.”

The band will also perform at the Kamloops Highland Games on July 11.

Band members are gearing up for a sixth title run this August at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

"As the current World Champions, the SFU Pipe Band is very anxious to get back to Glasgow and defend our title.  We are constantly looking for ways to prepare and refine our performances before August,” says Lee.
