SFU named top 100 employer for third year
For the third straight year Simon Fraser University has been ranked one of Canada’s Top 100 employers by publisher Mediacorp Canada, the country’s largest publisher of employment-related periodicals and online directories. SFU was also named one of the Top Employers in B.C.
“It’s gratifying to be recognized as a top employer in both of these categories,” says Dario Nonis, executive director of human resources at SFU. “At the same time we do recognize that it’s important not to rest on our laurels but continue to strive for innovation and improvement."
The university was among 16,000 of the country’s fastest-growing employers – honed from more than 75,000 employers examined by Mediacorp - invited to participate.
SFU scored high marks in each of the eight categories, including physical workplace, work atmosphere, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development and community involvement.
Nonis says despite the current economic climate the university continues to provide numerous opportunities for employees to learn grow and challenge themselves personally and professionally.
The 2010 winners of the national competition, now in its 10th year, are in the Oct. 8 issue of Maclean’s magazine and in an editorial supplement of the Globe and Mail Oct. 9. The results are also published on the job search website Eluta.ca.
