Simon Fraser University President Andrew Petter will be the new face at the table at the President’s Annual SFU Surrey Gala Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 21.
Petter, who was formally installed as the university’s ninth president and vice-chancellor during Fall Convocation on Oct. 7, will join community and university guests at the annual gala.
The event is hosted by SFU to thank the community for its support and to provide an update on the latest activities and achievements of SFU’s Surrey campus.
It is also a fundraiser for SFU Surrey's Close to Home fundraising campaign. The fund was established in 2007 with a $1-million donation from developer Dale Regehr. Its aim is to reward entering students with high academic achievement who show student leadership and community involvement.
Petter was at SFU Surrey earlier this month to announce new funding for labs for the Mechatronics Systems Engineering program (from Western Economic Diversification Canada).
Since taking on the role in September he has also met informally with students at the Surrey campus, and with members of the SFU India Advisory Council. Petter will participate in SFU Surrey's annual Diwali celebration planned for Nov. 2, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
