Simon Fraser University is co-hosting The New Face of the Middle East, a roundtable discussion on the cataclysmic events reshaping the Middle East, on March 17, 7 to 8:30 p.m. The event will be held downtown at SFU’s Segal Graduate School of Business.
Three SFU programs in partnership with Global BC and in collaboration with the Vancouver Sun will present the discussion. The participating SFU programs are Hellenic Studies, the Centre for the Comparative Study of Muslim Societies & Cultures and the School for International Studies.
“It’s undeniable that the unrest in the Middle East is impacting our geopolitical architecture,” says Andre Gerolymatos, SFU professor of intelligence and security in the history department and one of the roundtable participants.
“We hope this discussion will engage the community in our exploration of the repercussions at hand.”
Global BC anchor Sophie Lui will moderate the roundtable discussion, which is free and open to the public. But registration is required due to limited seating. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Sadia Abbas, assistant professor of postcolonial studies at Rutgers (the State University of New Jersey) and four more SFU academics will be roundtable participants. The other SFU participants are Paul Sedra and Thomas Kuehn, assistant professors in history, and the School of International Studies’ Tamir Moustafa, associate professor, and John Harriss, professor and director.
