Close to 800 people gathered at a gala celebration on Thursday, June 24 at the Fairmont Vancouver to acknowledge the service of outgoing SFU President Michael Stevenson and his wife, Jan Whitford.

The gala honoured Stevenson’s bold and passionate leadership over the past 10 years. He oversaw the establishment of the Surrey campus, SFU Contemporary Arts’ new home at the former downtown Woodward’s site and the UniverCity residential community at the Burnaby campus. New research, teaching and residential facilities also took root on the hill during Stevenson’s stewardship.

SFU announced the creation of a new Michael Stevenson Presidential Legacy Fund at the gala. The university community and friends raised $636,000 for the new fund, which will support graduate student scholarships.
