The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band has performed at the World Pipe Band championships on Glasgow Green and is awaiting the judges’ results (expected approximately 10 a.m. Vancouver time).

“We just finished our medley, the band’s feeling great, we feel it was the best performance of the year for us - we just nailed it,” says Pipe Sergeant Jack Lee.

“Hopefully the judges will feel the same way, there are some good bands to come, but we feel we did our job.“

The band’s confidence grew after its first performance of the March, Strathspey and Reel. “It was a smooth run for us, with no problems – a great start,” Lee adds.

“They’re just so polished,” offered a Scottish spectator who has followed the band for years. “Smooth.”

The grandstands were filled for the SFU performances and during warm ups, crowds swarmed around them for a chance to see the reigning world champion band.

The rain held off and as the band waited between sets, the sun started to break through, much to the relief of Lee and his brother, Pipe Major Terry Lee.

The Lees’ mother, Annabelle, watched intently from the grandstand. Five grandchildren also play in the band.

SFU has won the last two straight world championships and is vying for three in a row. The bad has won the championship six times in total.
