Mediacorp Canada has again selected Simon Fraser University as one of the country’s Top Family-Friendly Employers. The 2011 designation is given to organizations based on the programs and benefits they provide to assist employees with families and young children.

“We understand how important it is to help our faculty and staff balance work with family commitments,” said Alan Black, SFU’s manager of pensions and benefits. “We want our employees to enjoy coming to work.”

Mediacorp Canada, the nation’s largest publisher of employment guides and periodicals, described SFU’s health and family benefits as “exceptional.”

SFU was selected based on a range of factors, including:

  • Top-up payments for maternity, parental, and compassionate leave
  • Health benefits during maternity and parental leave
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Assistance for child and elder care
  • Telecommuting
  • Phased-in retirement
  • Vacation and personal time-off
  • On-site daycare

This special designation follows SFU being chosen last October as one of Canada’s Top Employers for 2011, the fourth consecutive time the school has recognized.

The official announcement is being made today in a special editorial feature published by The Globe and Mail and on Eluta.ca.
