Simon Fraser University Surrey is inviting the community to check out the campus and what it has to offer at its open house on Saturday, May 28 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The day starts with a welcome from SFU President Andrew Petter and features:

  • Demos, exhibits and displays, showcasing more than 60 SFU programs, as well as new research initiatives in health, criminology and engineering, and student projects in fields from robotics to entrepreneurship;
  • Tours of the campus expansion, more than 50,000 sq ft of new classroom and lab space that will increase both teaching and research capabilities, including a Pain Studies lab (see demos of virtual reality treatment) and a Cybercrime Research Centre (where criminologists will share their research and highlight such issues as community policing and online exploitation);
  • Presentations throughout the day on programs – from mechatronics systems engineering and world literature to science and health sciences – by staff who’ll talk about the student experience;
  • Activities for kids, including interactive games, a rock-climbing wall, bungee zone, face-painting and play areas;
  • Entertainment on Centre Stage, including musical performances by local artist Emily Taylor Adams and Canadian pop-soul singer-songwriter Karl Wolf;
  • For first-timers, an intro to the main campus – situated over top of Central City Mall – an architectural landmark designed by renowned architect Bing Thom. The campus, with more than 6,000 students, is located in the heart of the development of downtown Surrey, just south of the new Surrey Central Library – another Thom creation.

SFU Surrey is located at 250-13450 102nd Avenue. There’s free parking and opportunities to win prizes. Check www.surrey.sfu.ca/openhouse/ for more details.
