Creative-minded Simon Fraser University students are revving up their entrepreneurial spirits to compete for the coveted Student Entrepreneur of the Year award.

The annual event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13 at SFU’s Harbour Centre campus, 7th floor, from 2-5 p.m.

Members of SFU SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) partner with those from SFU Venture Connection to host the campus-wide event.

Previous competitions have recognized the business savvy of Benjamin Brown-Bentley and his events company Adrenaline Productions (last week named the City of Surrey’s 2010 Student Entrepreneur of the Year) and Milun Tesovic and Metroleap Media, and its flagship website, Metrolyrics, one of the world’s most trafficked websites for lyrics.

In addition to its main award, this year’s competition includes some new categories, including Best New Student Entrepreneur and the nearly added BCIC Student award for Technology Entrepreneurship. Prizes from community sponsors total $3,500.

The event gives SFU students a chance to present their businesses to a panel of industry professionals as well as an audience of their peers.
