Three Simon Fraser University students are the first to graduate from SFU Surrey’s World Literature program – the first undergraduate program of its kind in North America.

Caszie Schoeber, Jennifer Eng and Anish Singh received their SFU degrees last week.

“I was drawn to World Literature because I have a passion for traveling, exploring, and discovering new things about the world in which we live,” says Schoeber, who participated in the SFU Humanities field school in Prague and plans to take a year off to study in France.

Jennifer Eng plans to stay closer to home and continue her work with youth in the community, including coaching local basketball teams, as well as teaching on a volunteer basis in both elementary and high schools.

Anish Singh, who was also chosen as the student speaker for the June 17th convocation ceremony, was recently accepted into SFU’s professional development program and plans to become a secondary teacher.

His speech encouraged graduates to embrace lifelong learning: “Education is not a stage in life; it’s an ongoing process that is never complete,” says Singh. “SFU has taught us how to learn, and we will continue to learn and to grow all of our lives.”

The World Literature program at SFU started in September 2007 and has quickly established a reputation as a vibrant and dynamic learning environment with excellent teaching and a cohesive and engaged student community.

It is designed for students interested in literature, cross-cultural dynamics, languages and international experience.
