A $100,000 gift from Sherrold and Marina Haddad, owners of Flag Chevrolet, supports a 100-seat lecture theatre at SFU Surrey. A ribbon cutting ceremony will officially open the Flag Chevrolet theatre.

Date: Wednesday, January 24
Time: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Place: SFU Surrey, outside of Flag Chevrolet theatre (room 3090)

The gift also doubles the value of SFU Surrey’s lectureship in mental health and addiction research. The program, established by the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society, brings an internationally recognized expert to share research findings at SFU and speak at community forums throughout the Fraser Valley.

“The SFU lectureship in mental health and addiction research will bring much needed insight into the devastation that addiction has brought to our community and perhaps some workable solutions,” says Sherrold Haddad. “Educating the community is of prime importance.”

“We were thrilled when we learned that SFU was establishing a university right here in Surrey and wanted to play a role in helping the university thrive,” adds Marina Haddad. “We jumped at the opportunity to provide a home for education in such a fantastic building that is so well integrated into the existing community.”
