Micro, robo, nano, gyro: if those scientific buzzwords speak to your inner geek, you won’t want to miss the annual Discover Applied Sciences event at Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus on Saturday, Feb. 10, 10 am to 2 pm.

All are welcome—especially secondary school students and their parents—to the multi-disciplinary open house which will include interactive hands-on displays by the schools of communication, computing science, engineering science, kinesiology, interactive arts and technology, and resource and environmental management. Exhibits include the EasyWheel, a unique wheelchair that allows chair-bound users to climb staircases without extensive home renovations, and a display of the autopilot capabilities of the SFU Aerial Robotics Group’s model helicopter.

Find out what SFU student scientists are up to, explore the labs, take in a campus tour or attend a talk by a faculty researcher. There’s even a free lunch and chance to win an iPod.

For more information, including a map, transit schedules, and directions to free parking, visit http://fas.sfu.ca/DiscoverFAS. Register early and score an extra chance at the iPod.
