Their achievements are diverse – from advancing children’s health to creating new strategies for city planning. What they share is a start at Simon Fraser University – and recognition for being outstanding alumni.

SFU’s Alumni Association will present four alumni and a current science student with outstanding alumni awards at a ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Four Seasons Vancouver Hotel.

They include:
Professional achievement:
Robert Armstrong, BSc (Hons) ’75, chief of pediatric medicine at B.C. Children’s Hospital;

Public service:
Larry Beasley, BA ’73, former senior city planner for the city of Vancouver;

Service to the community:
Sarah England, MBA ’97, a health activist with the World Health Organization;

Arts and culture:
Roy Miki, MA ’70, an SFU professor, poet and writer and advocate for social justice.

Science student Dua’a Riyal will also be recognized for her contributions to student leadership.

This year’s recipients will also participate in an alumni leaders forum. They’ll share their personal stories of success and leadership with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public.

The free event will be held at SFU Burnaby’s Diamond Alumni Centre on Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 4:30 – 7 p.m.
