Simon Fraser University is inviting high school students, parents and the public to visit its campus in Surrey’s award-winning Central City complex on Wednesday, February 21, from 4-8 p.m.

The annual SFU Surrey Open House offers something for everyone.  “You can tour our new campus, hear presentations on academic programs, view student projects and faculty demonstrations, see interactive displays, ask questions of our many university participants, and maybe even win a prize,” says Matthew Grant, enrollment manager for SFU Surrey.

Faculty and students will be on hand to show off their work and answer questions on several programs, including interactive arts and technology, computing science, business administration, education, health sciences, arts and social sciences, science and continuing studies.

Potential students and their parents can also find out more about SFU Surrey’s innovative first-year programs: TechOne, Explorations, and Science Year One. There’s even a special session for parents, called What's a Parent To Do? Supporting your Grade 12 student's transition to post-secondary study.

“We’re also giving out great prizes,” says Grant, “including a laptop computer, a cellphone, iPods, gift certificates, board games and much more. And every high school student who attends will get a free t-shirt.”

The Open House will be held on the mezzanine floor of the new campus at Central City, 13450 102 Ave., close to the Surrey Central SkyTrain station.

Preceding the Open House will be a free Philosopher’s Café discussion on “The University and the Valley” at 3 p.m.

To register for the open house or for more information, visit www.surrey.sfu.ca/openhouse or call 778.782.7400. For more information about the Philosopher’s Café, contact SFU Continuing Studies at www.sfu.ca/cstudies/surrey.
