The one thing many students say they miss most when they leave home to live at university is mom or dad's home cooking. Aleya Amershi, a student in residence at Simon Fraser University, is no different -- she adores her family's chicken lasagna. She loves it so much that when the SFU residences ran a contest inviting students to submit their favourite recipes from home, Amershi eagerly submitted her family's lasagna recipe.
It paid off. On March 14, Amershi's dad, Nazim Amershi, will be flown from Calgary to Vancouver, arriving at SFU by limousine to stay at the new Simon Hotel on the Burnaby campus.
On the same day Dad arrives, March 14, at 1 p.m., the dining hall chef will assist him in the kitchen as he whips up a very large batch of his now-famous chicken lasagna. That night Amershi, her friends and hundreds of residents will enjoy her family's home cooking.
