Peter J.G. Bentley, chairman and director of Canfor Corporation, is the 2007 recipient of the SFU President’s Distinguished Community Leadership Award.  He will be honoured at a dinner on Thursday, April 26  at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel.

The award recognizes those who make a difference to our community. Past winners include George and Jane Hungerford, Jack Poole, the Vancouver Foundation and the YWCA of Vancouver.

Bentley serves on the boards of several major corporations and is an active volunteer in many community organizations. He is a trustee and chairman emeritus of the VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation, governor of the Canadian Olympic Foundation and director of the Vancouver Art Gallery. An avid sportsman, he played a major role in winning the NHL franchise for the Vancouver Canucks.

Says SFU president Michael Stevenson, “Community leaders such as Peter Bentley and previous award winners exhibit the values and qualities that SFU students strive for. They are an inspiration for the next generation.”

Event information: Tickets are $125 before April 6, $145 after. Dinner and award program at 6:45 p.m.
