April 3, 2006
April 11-28, Tuesday-Saturday, 1-5:30 pm
Simon Fraser University, Alexander Centre Studios, 611 Alexander St.
(opening reception: Thursday, April 13, 7 pm)

Seventeen newly "certified" artists will receive their degrees at Simon Fraser University's convocation ceremony in June. In the meantime, SFU's school for the contemporary arts is celebrating their achievement  with Certifiable, a group exhibition by the 2006 visual arts graduating class.

Certifiable is a diverse exhibition. There's photography, video, sculpture, performance, installation, drawing, and painting. The works explore many themes including identity, domesticity, cultural displacement, violence, memory, gender politics, the uncanny, the abject and the self.  SFU Gallery director Bill Jeffries is enthusiastic, saying "these shows are always terrific."

Artists who will attend the April 13 opening reception are Adriana Contreras, Angelique Dunn, Negin Farsian, Olwyn Geeling, Charlie Hagan, Julian Hou, Rebecca Hsu, Devon Johnston, Emi Kozikowska, Ana Maria Kresina, Juliana Leung, Angress Li, Adrienne Mark, Nariman Mousavi, Aurora Mariel Niven, Robin Prisland and Shelley Tucker.
