From April 7th through June 30th, Canadians across the country will collaborate with Rwandan communities to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda. In one hundred days more than a million Tutsis were massacred and thousands of Hutu political moderates were murdered because they opposed the Hutu extremists’ agenda to eradicate the Tutsi lineage.
The Remembering Rwanda 10th Anniversary Memorial Project has invited Esther Mujawayo, co-founder of AVEGA, a widows association that assists survivors of the 1994 genocide, to address Canadian audiences on the challenges faced by AVEGA ten years after the horror. Mujawayo recently published a book entitled SurVivante.
The Vancouver stop of the project takes place on Thursday, April 8th at Simon Fraser University’s Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue and UBC’s Liu Institute for Global Issues.
