The Vancouver Foundation is providing a $20,000 research grant to Simon Fraser University criminology professor and forensic entomologist Gail Anderson. This is the second foundation grant Anderson has received for her research, which uses the life span of insects found on bodies to determine time of death.
Anderson will use this latest grant to advance her research into insect development rates under a variety of conditions related to poaching and animal neglect.
Anderson began applying her forensic knowledge of insects to poaching cases in 1994. She has provided evidence of time of death in criminal trials which have resulted in the conviction of poachers.
