Simon Fraser University is the first post-secondary institution in BC to have a business program accredited by Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada).

The accreditation recognizes that SFU Business' undergraduate business administration program offers all of the accounting courses covering the 18 syllabus topic areas tested in the CMA National Entrance Exam.

"We're very pleased that Simon Fraser University has achieved the standards of instruction and course content in management accounting required to challenge the CMA National Entrance Examination," says Bob Dye, president and CEO of CMA Canada.

SFU Business graduates with a concentration in accounting will now be exempt from writing Part 1 of the CMA National Entrance Exam. New graduates who qualify will write Part 2, the four-hour integrative case portion of the exam. The national exam fee will be reduced by 50 percent.

"We also are delighted to receive this accreditation from CMA Canada", says Ernie Love, dean of SFU Business. "It’s a reflection of the strength of our program and reaffirms the value we want to offer to our graduating students."

After passing Part 2 of the national exam, CMA student members proceed to the two-year CMA Strategic Leadership Program. A part-time program, it permits CMA students to continue working and to fulfill their practical experience requirements. After successful completion of the CMA Strategic Leadership Program and practical experience requirements, graduates become Certified Management Accountants (CMAs).

There are more than 33,000 Certified Management Accountants and 10,000 CMA students worldwide.
