It’s commencement time at high schools across Canada, and 45 students have an extra special reason to celebrate: they are the recent recipients of one of Simon Fraser University’s major entrance scholarships, worth between $24,000 and $34,000.
An 11-member scholarship review committee selected the winners from hundreds of outstanding applicants nominated by high school counselors from across Canada and around the world. In addition to having a 95 per cent or higher grade point average, major scholarship winners also demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and community involvement.
SFU will award more than $2.8 million in entrance scholarships for the 2006/07 academic year, including automatic entrance scholarships worth $3,500 to high school students with a minimum 90 per cent average.
