Composing, golfing, writing, kayaking – there are dozens and dozens of options in this year’s popular SFU summer camp program for kids and teens. Budding Beethovens will learn to compose their own mini symphony in the new composer camp for five to eight-year olds while teens with an adventurous bent can earn their scuba diving certification.

The camps, held at both the SFU Burnaby and SFU Surrey campuses, will attract more than 6,000 young students aged five to 19 years. The camps run from the end of June to the beginning of September and range in price from a $75 one-week track and field camp to a new, advanced, $500 golf camp for ages 12-18.

Camps at SFU Surrey combine computers with art and design, including camps that encourage girls to learn about technology and an art and animation camp for aboriginal students ages 10 and up. This camp teaches participants how to use artwork, video, music and multimedia and animation tools to build a website, computer game or multimedia projects.

New this year at the Burnaby campus is a special one-week rescue academy camp featuring an emergency parachute rescue by search and rescue (SAR) technicians from the Comox military base. Campers will watch this exciting event and then chat to the SAR techs.

Registration for all camps is ongoing. For more details about SFU Burnaby camps call 604.291.4307 or visit http://sfurec.vladb.com/recreation/camps/index.shtml.
