Radical leadership needs met by SFU's Learning Strategies Group

Quality education isn't always fun and games. However, when the Learning Strategies Group (LSG) in SFU's faculty of business and Vancouver's homegrown gaming giant Radical Entertainment launch the first phase of their educational partnership on Wednesday, August 10th at SFU's Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, the innovative balance between work and play is bound to be as colorful and unique as Radical's world class gaming titles.
“Radical has been nationally recognized for best management practices and for good reason,” says LSG's Mark Frein. “They are imaginative when it comes to people development and open to trying experimental educational models. As a business educator, my favorite students are those that push us to innovate.”
Radical's creative drive and people focus, as well as LSG's ability to innovate is what brought the two organizations together according to Radical's director of human resources, Leah Rubin.
“Because Radical's success is largely dependent on our talent, we are very progressive and focused on HR best practices,” says Rubin. “The Learning Strategies Group at SFU not only understands our business, but our unique work culture. They have a really fresh and unique approach to customizing programming and their passion for excellence matches ours.”
Frein says that when the leadership program is launched next Wednesday, Radical's employees are likely in for a few surprises.
“Radical's employees have a low tolerance for boredom and sadly, a lot of traditional educational practices are boring, plain and simple. But we're going to put them to the test,” says Frein. “I imagine those participating will have some pretty interesting ways of approaching the challenges we throw at them. It will be an extremely intense and interesting learning environment.”
The Learning Strategies Group will work with Radical Entertainment over the next year to develop leadership and management skills within the company. The educational programs will be focused on helping Radical employees make important transitions between technical and management roles.
