Members of the world champion Robert Malcolm Memorial Grade 2 pipe band — including four who reside in Burnaby — are back home after their stunning first place win in Glasgow, Scotland last weekend.

“It’s still sinking in — we did it,” says a jubilant pipe sergeant Shaunna Hilder, who returned home to Port Coquitlam last night (Aug. 20) – with trophy in tow.

The band — part of the SFU Pipe Band organization — took first place while the famed senior SFU Pipe Band finished second in the Grade 1 competition.

The Grade 2 band is comprised of 34 members, including 19 pipers and 15 drummers who reside throughout the Lower Mainland, Washington, other parts of the U.S. and Denmark.

Burnaby members include pipers Alex Galloway and Krista Hunt, and drummers Ashley Penna and Kylie Yonge.
