Simon Fraser University's School for the Contemporary Arts is very pleased to announce that Barbara Bourget has been appointed as Artist in Residence for the Fall 2006 semester. Bourget is the co-founder of the renowned Kokoro Dance Company, a butoh dance company based in Vancouver.

As artist in residence Bourget will create a work for SFU's major fall dance show, give a public lecture, and present butoh workshops.*

*Bourget studied ballet in Vancouver, and won a scholarship to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. She performed with, among others, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and in Vancouver with Mountain Dance and the Paula Ross Dance Company. From 1990 on, she focussed her attention on butoh studies. Since forming Kokoro Dance, she has choreographed more than 80 dances.

Bourget has received 10 Canada Council grants for choreographic and technical studies.* *In 2003 she received a Master of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from SFU.
