A new public lecture series aimed at making communities safer — called Safe Streets, Safe Communities — begins at Simon Fraser University’s Surrey campus on September 28.
The Mayors’ Public Lecture Series is a collaboration between the university’s continuing studies department and the mayors of the South Fraser region.
SFU criminologist Paul Brantingham kicks off the free public lecture series on September 28 at 7 p.m. with a discussion of crime analysis and crime reduction. On October 12, professors Gail Anderson and Lynne Bell will talk on Bugs and Bones, and Murder and Maggots.
The series runs until May 2007 with further talks on healthy communities, at-risk youth, social and urban planning, development and revitalization, transportation, economic development and diversification, and education and career opportunities.
Participating municipalities include Surrey, White Rock, Delta, Langley, Langley Township, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Maple Ridge and Mission.
More information on the series is available at www.sfu.ca/cstudies/surrey.htm or by calling 778-782-7451 or emailing cs-surrey@sfu.ca.
