Nearly 2,300 students are eligible to participate in SFU's fall convocation ceremonies Thursday, Oct. 7 and Friday Oct. 8, after completing their requirements for degrees, certificates and diplomas.
Two ceremonies will be held each day beginning at 9:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The ceremonies will also be web cast webserver.lidc.sfu.ca/broadcast/
Ceremonies on Thursday will recognize students in the faculty of arts and social sciences. The afternoon event includes general studies degrees.
On Friday morning, students graduating in applied sciences and business will receive their degrees. The Friday afternoon ceremony is devoted to students who've earned certificates and diplomas in one of the five faculties.
Honorary degrees will be bestowed on three individuals, including Sheila Fraser, Canada's auditor general ( Oct. 7 morning ceremony); David McLean, chair of Canadian National Railway and chairman and CEO of the McLean Group, (Oct. 7 afternoon ceremony) and Nancy McKinstry, vice-president of Odlum Brown, and founder and chair of the Minerva Foundation for B.C. women (Oct. 8 morning ceremony).
